Hi,
Today I received my B&B Electronics Optical Isolator and just finished up the wiring to the computer.. Installed the FishBowl software and guess what happened... the sun set before I could test it #$#^&^&**%^$@.
Oh well, they say that the sun will rise again tomorrow ;-)
I will report what happens then.

Well ,after much hair pulling I got the program to work :-) ;-)
My major problem was the serial port on my old computer was not working. I have no idea why it won't read the data from the "opto" .

When I tried using a USB to serial adapter cable, it worked fine.
I then tried a 2nd computer that had serial port, hooked it up and "WOW" it worked on it as well.
So now I'm wondering how to get the 1st computer's serial port to work.

Any ideas.....

BTW: when checking out the serial port on XP devices, it shows that port is installed and working ;-(

Windows showing the serial port only means the chip is installed, the actual buffer hardware can be broken and its common as thats what connects to the outside devices and gets zapped!. I kill MANY serial ports over the years!
