Post subject:  GT-View 1.6 over a network

We just had a Xantrex Grid Tie Solar inverter installed with GT View (monitoring was one of my criteria for selecting the inverter). I ran a CAT5 cable from the inverter to our household hub (a simple, dumb splitter, essentially). The hub is wired to all of our household computers and all of my internet and networking signals come thru it.

I downloaded GT View, which seems to run fine but cannot locate my inverter. Is there a way to "ping" the inverter to help the GT View software locate the inverter or some other means to get the two to talk? It would be a real drag to have to pull a hard wire the rest of the way to my computer.

thank you,
George

DO NOT connect the "Ethernet jack" in the inverter to anything that does not have Xantrex brand on it. They have done a terrible thing and used a standard computer Ethernet connector, but have oddball signals on it, and there is also power (12V) in the wire. (it might fry the port in your hub)

You must use the serial connector (DB-9) connector, and a 1:1 cable
(see post here
http://www.xantrex.com/forum/forum_post ... D=420&PN=2 )

You must set GT view to look at the proper serial connector 1, 2, 3, 4
(some computers can have up to 8 connectors.)

Alternatively, you may have luck getting a ZigBee wireless link to work, but S.G. is the expert on how to get this to work.
