Hi Solar Guppy,

I have had my Suntie STRX1500UPG up and running since Mid May-05.

My question:

Is this inverter tolent to accept up to a 2K array? I read that a STRX2500UPG can handle a 2.75K array and another said it can run as high as a 3.3K array. I generally don't like over feeding the system but I can't afford a larger inverter yet (but really can't afford burning one up either) and would like to have a 12 panel system for now that will feed me 6-9 KWH/Day.

I am currently running (4) Sharp NE-165U1 in (2) strings of 2 panels. What I was wondering is I would like to run (12) total panels eventually. (6) NE-165U1 and (6) NE-170U1 for a total of 2010 Watts. I will be adding 2 more panels next weekend so I need to know what the expert thinks?

My other question is which way would the strings be better for this set up?

A) (4) strings of 3 panels giving me about 96 volts? (Max 120VDC)

B) (6) strings of 2 panels giving me about 64 volts?

Thanks a bunch,

Dale

The 1500 and 2500 are identical electronics, its a software limitation only

You can hook-up a 10 kW array and it would make no difference to the inverter, it will just run at its programed maximum power of 1500 watts

your "A" configuration will likely exceed 120V ( and the inverters maximum rated input) in cold weather.

your "b" configuration is what I would strongly suggest

The Inverter is about 91% efficient, so that's about 1650 watts DC, anything more and it will not be harvested. Typical Panels only get about 900 wmsq , so thats now 1830 watts DC.

In Summer condidtions, you might lose about 100 watts in for an hour or two with the 2kw setup ... In winter conditions through, it maybe 200-400 watts depending on how cold it gets

Richard is selling two STXR2500 upg's , I'd suggest you get one of those and then sell your 1500 upg on eBay. I guess this would one be a net cost to you of a few hundred
