Hello all,

I am posting here because of the wealth of knowledge here. My several year old STXR 2500 has decided to trip it's 240 volt breaker, also the 240 volt breaker in my electrical panel. I reset the STXR DC breakers and reset the 240 volt breakers. After the timeout in very low evening sun the STXR made several loud pops I powered everything and wrote this email.

Other than send the unit in to Xantrex any ideas or thoughts?

Thanks,

Dave

Loud pops = failing electronics = Call Xantrex Support

If your unit is not a UPG ( and hence out of warranty ) , they have a 999 upgrade program for Suntie owners to get a new GT2.5

All Sunties will be out of warranty by Oct of this year, as thats when the last of the UPG's were shipped , Oct 2003.

Guppy,

Thanks for the reply. That was my thought too. If I understand right they do not have the means to service this inverter either. I read here that I will need to convert to strings for the new inverter. I think this will take quite a bit of re-work with my system but....If that is what it takes.

How solid is the new inverter?

Thanks,

Dave

GT series are the best on the Market ... 10 year warranty as well

For most Suntie to GT rewires, its usally just take all all the strings and run in series ... Its less than an hour if you pull the ST, put the GT in its place and wire nut the strings in series inside the GT's BOS compartment

Concidering the technology in the Suntie, the fact it is fans cooled, 5 years was a pretty decent life for the product. the GT is sealed, covection cooled and the 999 deal is half the price we paid for the Suntie!

Call Xantrex 800 service #, tell them your Suntie Died and you would like to do the GT2.5 999 deal ... You might need your Suntie serial number, but that would be it

Guppy,

Well the date of manufacture is 4/30/2003......

What will they do with warranty? Darn close to 5 years.

Thanks,

PFM

Guppy,

Thanks got the $999, for a NEW GT 2.8 with all the new UL requirements. I will be down for a few days as it will not ship until May 8th but I think it was a good deal.

Now what to do with the sick STXR???? I would think someone could fix it but then again....

Now I need to read the GT manual and get the site ready.

Thanks again,

PFM

Sweet deal, you will really like the GT, also you can monitor using SG-View and a regular RS232 ( no isolator require like was needed for FishBowl )

You should see about 4-5% better harvest as well, Enjoy!
