Last night while running my genset to recharge my battery bank, after about 2 hours of charging the amp input to the inverter started cycling up and down. Normally the input amps runs right at 35 amps. I would watch it and it would be running at 35 then go down to 1 or 2 for about 20 - 30 seconds then back up to 35 and stay there for a minute or two, then back down to 1 or 2.
Thinking there was something wrong with the genset, I shut it down and switch over to a second genset. Same thing happened. This is the first time this has occured. The temperature in the utility room was around 90 degrees F. The ventilation for the inverter was not obstructed but is it possible that the ambient temperature in the room was too hot and the inverter was just doing what it is supposed to do to prevent overheating?
Any ideas?
