Well for starters, you can just look at your inverter, if its listed, it will have a UL1741 sticker on it, but part of that listing requires you have the GTI modules installed. If you don't have those then your Electric company is correct that your SW4048's are not UL listed for gridtie operation.

If your unit is labeled as compliant and you have do have the GTI's, then have your utility check this list, its what California allows for there gridtie rebate program and show them the UL1741 sticker showing its is compliant.

thanks sg the sw is UL1741 listed with the revised 4.10 software which means it doesnt require an extra gti as it is built in

my inverters have the revised software

another question...the utility company is also saying i'm required to have a one line diagram on file at their office....is this the case everywhere...sounds unusual

The only sw4048's that meet UL REQUIRE the GTI ... I'm 100% sure of this. No SW4048 installations without GTI's are UL1741 listed, I was with Xantrex when all this went down and I know first hand what happened. Based on your firmware ( 4.10 ), I would say you have a pre 2001 unit, that's NOT certified for gridtie, you need updated firmware ( 4.20 ) and the GTI units for you installation

Hear is the manuals on the required GTI

http://www.xantrex.com/web/id/115/p/doc ... roduct.asp

And quoted from the manual, page 7 http://www.xantrex.com/web/id/605/docserve.aspx

Quote:
All new SW Series II units (manufactured since December of 2001) are
equipped to allow the GTI to be installed in the field. The SW Series II inverter is
Certified to UL1741 for off grid and backup power applications. The SW can be
connected to the grid as a battery charger; however, it is NOT approved to use the
SELL feature (net meter) without the GTI accessory. The GTI carries all necessary
approvals and markings to allow a safety inspector to approve the installation for net
metering.

I had to supply a 1 page wiring diagram, but I don't recall if that went to the Building Inspection office, or Edison. Either way, I had to supply the signed permit, to get Edison to sign off on it.
