I see these are not very popular on this site. I was wondering if anyone tried to clean up the output from a modified sine wave inverter? They sell ferrite chokes for blocking noise. Here's a link..

I also think that a coil on the output AC would also suppress noise.
Anyone try anything like this. Just wondering.

I'd tried running an isolation transformer from a mod-sine inverter, and the inverter would not start with the inductive load. I never followed up on it.

I've heard that inductive loads don't sit well with a lot of inverters. I was thinking like one coil of wire on one of the A/C legs, hot or return, like an RF choke. I guess that's an experiment to try when I get everything running.
It would seem cheap to do and I guess if it worked well they would just use it in the inverters already. But you never know.

Inductive loads on pure sine inverters are just fine, I run a large 240VAC welder - and it's a honking inductive load, along with the well pump. Mod sine is a different story.

I have had no problems with the induction loads myself. A buddy of mine had one of these hooked up for a while. You can always experiment with them I bet you will have pretty good results.

I looked up the difference.... Pure sign wave usually has the output heavily filtered and there are a couple ways they do that to make a sign wave. Modified sign wave is pretty much a square wave output. So the pure sign wave inverter has to start off with more power because some of it is lost during filtering. Which makes me think modified sine wave inverters may be a little more efficient.

So what I take from that is you can probably use some type of filtering on the modified sign wave inverters to get them to work with whatever is sensitive, laptop, x-box or whatever.

A pump motor is a different story. I do have a well and would love to solarize it, but the cost may be too much. Maybe I need to switch to 24vdc pump.

I'm just wondering if anyone has tried some sort of filtering of a cheaper inverter output?
