Post subject:  Xantrex: Clipping the resistor in a C-60 controller NiCads

Ok, got a good deal on a Trace C-60 that had been in for warranty service, or a return, or something from my dealer. Anyway, I bought it.

Taking a good look, it suggests in the manual to clip resistor/jumper... 49 or something, which will boost the potentiometers by two volts each, making them top out at 14.5 and 16, to the LVR and LVD respectively.
It also permanently disables the equalization function.

Now, I see that there are quite a few of us in here with NiCads. Has anyone else done this?

My only concern is that it's AWFUL permanent a solution, with very little chance of "going back".

Is it worth it?

Xantrex has made their position known in the manual. Clip if you're using nicads.

Thanks,

DJ

Deej,

Well, two questions, then.

You say you're using nicads. Any plans of getting rid of them soon? If not, clip the jumper and live with it. You NEED those extra volts you know.

Second, you say that you got the charger second-hand. So if you got a good deal, what's the problem? Dedicate it forevermore to your nicads, and like it.

Yeah, it's odd that you have to "damage" the controller to get the best performance out of it for nicads, but, hey, atleast Trace gave you the option!
