i want to get an xw 60 mppt,but funds are low right now,so i went and done some other window shopping.
i was thinking about how mppt charge controllers work;dc solar input,inverted to ac,put into a dc charger....fairly simple...kinda.the charge controllers on the market have all kinds of software to keep things in check and allow for variables for many different customers.
lets say i just need a simple setup to charge my backup batteries . first off the battery bank is 48v 420Ah. my solar array is 1140 watts (60v 22a)more or less,lets say that these batteries do backup quite a bit always putting out 8a
heres what i could do to keep those batteries up and charged,buy a 48 volt 10 amp charger.a 1200 watt simple sine wave inverter and 2 12 volt batteries tied in series ........its a simple dc to dc converter to handle the given load
now the numbers i have given arent realistic or the actual numbers i would use...but heres why it wouldnt be effective ....price a 48 volt inverter at 20 amps=350-450 dollars,good sine wave inverter1500 watt 800-1200 dollars batteries90-100 dollars....grand total for top dollar is almost 1800 dollars
i just called louis at sunele********he says they are going to sell the xw60 mppt for 470 dollars why do the other when you can have all the bells and whistles that the mppt controllers offer at a smaller price
by the by tri county electric is looking over my proposal to do a grid tie sell back to tva i should have an answer within the month. at first...they didnt think anyone was interested till i told them i already have the equipment to do it....... the next day i had a meeting with tri county tva and another utility company that was interested in doing this......just to say.....i dont think many people are into solar....but like all things this will pass and soon i could be installing system here in south central kentucky ...as well as wind and micro hydro......thanks to most of you here and others at different forums ...
