Ok i have a strange question for everyone here. I have a SW+ 2524 in a offgrid application. my question is will the sw except power from a modified sinewave inverter as ac in to charge batteries? and if so is it hard on the inverter? My plan is this i have a old 3/4 ton chevy truck i use for work that has 4 golfcart batteries setup for 440 amp hours and a xantrex 1500 watt modified sinewave inverter and a 120 plus amp alternator. this truck runs 2-3 hours a day going to and from work so i would like to set up a timed switch so i could say at 9 pm turn it on for 4 hours and have the ac in set on the sw at 5 amps say and this would put 100 amp hours a night into my house bank. seems like it would be doable as long as the xantrex modified sinewave wont hurt the sw plus.

I am pretty sure the SW series inverter will not accept modified sinewave input. The processor that generates the phasing for the three transformers, producing the 27 possible instantaneous steps, are sequenced to match a sinewave.

hi halfcrazy,
you could use a sinewave inverter, but why bother with all of this as it's very inefficient and would cause you to use more gas lowering your mileage. that stuff is expensive anymore so even a genny at home would use it up and be somewhat noisey. there is one i've heard about on naws that seems to be excellent. i believe it's the honda 2000e or is it i or something like that so if you've got to use one, use a decent one. there's always more pvs or wind generation. i know you've heard that alot, but it's true. affording it is another story.

well since posting this my array has gone frome 320 watts to about 1800 watts we dont use the generator in the summer at all and minimal in the winter but i am building a 10 ft windmill based on the one that Dan from www.otherpower.com has been building for a great time now so the above post of mine seems so far away now :D . it is nice to have extra power now need to find another use for it like a battery powerd tractor
