I would like to connect my GT2.5 to a modem that is on all the time and connected to a dedicated phone line. What type of modem and cable are required if this is possible. If not, do you have a suggestion that would make this remote data aquisition possible?

Its been 10 years since I have used dial-up modems. Its possible, but your going to have to read the modem manuals for the command set to initailize the modems to work as a bridge. You also going to have to manually invoke the dialing from the PC to the remote GT ...

So, sorry your on your own on this configuration

From a cost stand point, you can get a used laptop, have it run GT-View and upload data to a web-server (local to where the GT is located ). The cost is the laptop and DLS or Cable connection. If you paying for a phone now, a dry line DLS line is only a few dollars more. Also cable "lite" packages run only 15-25 dollars month ( 256k data rates )

You also can configure the dialup networking to connect/disconnect automatically and just have the laptop connect to the internet via a dialup account. This is all built into windows, so for example, if you configure GT-View to once every 15 minutes FTP the screen capture file, it would ( via windows ) automatically connect to the dialup account and do the FTP and disconnect

I haven't tried this, but this is how dialup networking works in windows

Laptops to do the polling can be found a plenty on eBay for about 100.00

Ok, I have a laptop, and will now connect it directly to the GT inverter. I have run a Cat-5 cable from the inverter location to the PC location. What cable configurations do I need establish to punch down the RJ485 and DB-9 connector ends?

Read the manual and make sure you not trying to plug into the Xanbus port of the GT.

For the RS232 wires ... this has been answered dozen of times
