Someone stopped the other day and was looking at my panels.
The cost of the panels were mentioned and they made the statement, " maybe one could purchase panels from outside the US and get them cheaper than buying them from with-in the US."
My? is this, Is he correct? I never thought it possible, with shipping and all.

What are some of our readers thoughts?

That could be possible, but the panels have to be UL listed and most manufacturers require purchasing a full container. Also beware of a lot of internet SOLAR stores offering great deals. Usually their deals are not great(panels are too expensive) and they are usually 3rd or 4th party buyers. This may cause a warranty and a replacement issue if one of your panels malfunctions. Just curious to how much $Wp you are paying out where you are.

I would be paying the going rate here in the USA. Around $ 4-5/watt.

I understand your thoughts and you are correct in that one must look at the entire picture of purchase to get a good value.
Thanks

There is a dealer on the east coast(New Jersey) who offers Suntech 170 for just under $4Wp. They are a direct trading partner with Suntech.

What is the dealer in New Jersey?

We are getting a house with Siemens panels and these are pretty close.

Thanks,

To me I think that it is too risky buying solar panels over the internet, internationally. There are a lot of scams out there and you can never be to careful. I'll take going into a store and leaving with what I want anytime over ordering online.
