Hi Joshua,

I let the rain do most of my cleaning. Sometimes, I hose them off from the ladder to keep from walking on the roof. On the rare occasions that I wipe them down, I do it in the morning before the sun softens the roofing material.

So I was curious how everyone cleans thier panels.

Mine are on my roof and I usuall go up with a hose and mop to get all of the grit off of them.

When I first put them up, I would also dry them, but that took a long time.

Do you worry about wear & tear on your roof with all of the walking on it for the cleaning?

I hosed down my first PV system once. That was it. That system had panels that were on the flat part of the roof (the panels were at slight pitch) and on the regularly pitched roof.

The panels on the flat roof had dirt accumulate at the one edge because they weren't pitched enough to shed water easily.

On my current system I have let Mother Nature do all the cleaning so far. All of these are on a pitched roof and the water sheds nicely. There haven't been enough dry days that would let dirt accumulate to a degree that I would think was interesting.

Because I have several arrays I hope to test the benefit of cleaning a dirty array this summer.

I just let the rain do it. I am afraid that I will scratch it somehow if I clean it myself.
