Only you can answer the "should I" question

I'm just letting you know that if you make a 500 watt array , just connect it to the Suntie also serving the 1500 watt array , via the combiner board , the MPPT difference won't be that much between the different angles

running the inverter at 500 , 1500 or 2500 watts doesn't make much difference to the efficiency of the power produced.

The Suntie is your ONLY option , there are no sunnyboy that can do a 500 watt array (yet) and if you attempt to parallel arrays with the sunnyboy , a slight drop in output of one string will take the whole string out , on the Suntie , it would be at worst a pair of panels down in production

Now I'm confused again. I thought that each array with a unique pointing angle had to have a separate inverter, so as to get the MPPT thing to work properly.

Does MPPT not really buy that much, or will the MPPT circuitry track the panels with the highest output, or am I missing something?

Thanks!

Hi William,

mppt is a mostly a varible function of the tempature of the solar panel. In your case , as long as the small array is configured with the same type of panel and in the same voltage (48 volt nominal) , the difference in true mppt between the larger array in full sun , and the smaller array in partial sun will have minial effect on what the mppt is as the inverter tracks it

Even if the mppt is "off" on the smaller array by a few percent , your only talking 10-20 watts of power.

Do you understand now ?

Henry

Many thanks Henry, now I get it! I had been misled into thinking that each orientation needed a separate inverter, now that I know that's not true I can save a few bucks and maybe add a few panels!

Thank You!
