I am interested in the panels from sun electric. I appreciate everyone's input here. I am planning on putting in a 10Kw system (gridtied) and plan on doing as much work myself as a I can. I will likely leave connection of the A/C to an electrician.

I do have several questions about the panels.

They seem to have two options on their homepage. http://sunelec.com/

The sun modules for $3.14/watt and the Evergreen B panels for $3.68/watt.

One of the things my utility has said is that they need to be UL rated and CEC (California energy comission?) certified. It looks like the B modules are UL listed, not sure about the Sun modules. Any thoughts here?

What are the Pro/Con of each of these panel options.

Thanks very much.

Peteski

The panels themselfs are identical, its just the label they stick on the back

Sun modules are non-listed, the Evergreen B's are listed, so if thats needed for your install, get the Evergreen B's

What are some of your thoughts about Sunelectric folks? Honest?

Just keep in mind they have a 6 Panel shipping minimum on the Evergreens. It's a shipping problem with panels breaking if they ship less than 6 due to their size.

Does anyone know what they charge for shipping on 6 panels? I forgot to ask them when I talked to them. I know it depends on location, but just trying to get a ballpark idea.

We need a local Evergreen supplier up here in the Northeast!

haha.. yeah that's the funny thing.. Can't buy direct from them though. I filled out the form on their website to inquire where I can purchase the panels... haven't heard from them yet.

Maybe I should drive up there and see if they have an "outlet store" :)

I did some more checking and found a local supplier who will sell me the new Kyocera panels for around $4/watt. I will likely purchase from them and they will do the design for me as well. I plan on doing the install with my father in law.

I was wondering if others were seeing panel prices coming down as well? Maybe I got lucky.

Thanks.

you did pretty good, but i wouldn't say prices are falling just yet. this link that solar guppy had given before has many low prices in it.

Yeah, I'm not sure why they are not on the ecobusinesslinks list. I saw that sale too, for like 1 day over the weekend! It's a no brainer purchase at that price! I was ready to jump on it, but I got in to work on Monday and the price was back up to 3.14/watt... Right now it's back down to $2.94/watt.

I will buy these in a second if I knew I could sell 3 or 4 of them locally. I only need 1 (maybe 2 at that price), but they require minimum of 6 to purchase due to shipping... I have a co-worker willing to go in with me for 1 or 2 modules.. I just don't want to get stuck with the rest!

I'm wondering if the UL listed ones would be easier to sell? That is another concern I have. The 2.94 price is for the "B" non-UL listed modules.
