Hello everyone, what would be my options as far as to which DC cable/awg to use. The system will contain 12 80-watt panels and the inverter will be about 30-35 feet away from the panels.

Thanks,
Adiel

What will the system voltage be? How many panels in series?

And what is the load end , a inverter , charge controller and the working voltage .. ie 12 , 24 , 48 volts ?

Thanks guys, I guess the main issue before the cables is the inverter itself. I basically also need a recommendation for an inverter as I am a newbie in this stuff... :) Which inverter is the most rock solid right now for the panels mentioned above? I might get 12 more panels but that would be in the future.

And as far as how much panels in series, what would be the best choice?

Thanks,
Adiel

You need to better explain what you building

Is this grid-tie or Standalone

What type of power levels are you thinking about load wise

Grid-tie is straigh forward ... panels wired to provide proper voltage , inverter sells power to grid

Standalone has MANY possible cominations

Solar panels , feed charger control feeds batterys feed inverter is the beginning.

No short answers ... explain is full details what you want to build

Will it be grid tie or stand alone?

If grid tie, do you want back up power durring power outages?

Hello, the system will be grid-tie and I will not be using backup batteries for now. Basically I am thinking something between a sunny boy or a sun tie inverter. As far as the modules go, I will have 12 and am thinking of splitting them into 3 sets of 4 each (Is this the best way to go?) As far as the cable goes, I also need advice on this. I went to home depot this weekend and they do not have a clue on what cables to use for solar panels(I expected that!!)

Thanks,
Adiel

I prefer the Suntie UPG especially if you plan to add on.

For wire, the best choice is USE-2/RHW-2. The USE-2 designation allows it to be used exposed and the RHW-2 designation allows it to be used in conduit in a dwelling.

Thanks wd8cdh. I think I will go with the upgraded ST2500 after much research. As far as that cables goes, do you know where to get a roll of that cheap online?

Thanks,
Adiel
