Guppy, can you or anyone else tell me anything about the reliability of the PVPowered inverters? (Or the SunPower inverters, which are the same units.)

I recently had the chance to look inside a PVP2800X and found there is almost NOTHING inside....a HUGE torroid transformer and a small circuit card. It has a 10 year warranty. I didn't get a picture.
Then I looked inside a Xantrex GT3.0 and WOW! It is FULL. There must be a half dozen ckt boards and thousands of parts. It has a (standard) 5 year warranty. I have pictures.
Thoughts: Is the PVP more reliable because of fewer parts? Is the PVP warranty longer because they are the new kids on the block? The specs are almost identical so is the PVP a better design? I would love to see a schematic of each one.

Anybody have any long term reliability info?

You can get an extended warranty for the GT3.0 for about 200 bucks to have the same 10 year coverage

The PV Power is a single stage, TI DSP based H-Bridge Design. The Pro's to this is it is less parts, low power performance suffers as well as having to have a 100 pound torroid 3kw 60hz transformer.

The GT is a Multi stage design, it uses semiconductors/ hi freq switching for better over all harvest and lower weight. No big xformers.

All the new inverters are multi-stage, Fronius, SMA , Xantrex

The PVP and GT both are now multi-year in the field designs so I doubt either designs are a risk from the consumers end as problems would have surfaced by now.

I know the GT3.0 inside and out, you have nothing to fear about its long term reliability
