Hi Folks,

Really excited to find this board. I have a new STXR inverter. Can someone tell me if the B&B 9SPOP2 is suitable for use with the STXR? This is a port-powered isolator. Or do I need to get spomething like the 9POP4 which will take an external 12V power supply?

Thanks!
David

You will need an external supply , their are no other connections other than data and pv minus on the Suntie db9 connector. most "self powered" optos use dtr and dsr toggling to generate a voltage.

This is why I recommend the USB powered opto , see the Fishbowl section for the URL

OK, thanks admin, I appreciate the feedback. I don't want to go USB. We have a large multi-unit residential installation heere with a community LAN. We are working on buidling custom integrated serial-ethernet hardware and writing our own software to allow submission of data to a central server for logging and graphics display as a demonstration project.

Hi David,

The BB isolator might work but you would have to call Black Box technical support to make sure.

Since the data only goes from the STXR to the computer and not the other way, the isolator might work in that direction with only port power from the receive end. I have several isolators that will work that way but I don't know if the BB one will.
