I've two questions regarding the capabilities of the Sunny Boy inverters:
1) Can the display data be rezeroed out in the field by the consumer ? I understand this is done at the factory by using special test software.
2) There are other manufacturers of powerline modems. Rather than going the SWR-COM+SWR-PLM route, can a less costly alternative just involve the SWR-RS232 modem with a cheaper PL modem from another manufacturer? This arrangement should work nicely with the SunnyData software.

If you have a Sunnyboy controller, even just a Sunnyboy Lite, you can go into the sytem menu and reset the controller by doing a system reset. Then you have to re-detect your inverter(s),whihc is almost automatic-- very easy. But no, you cannot re-zero the inverter. However, you can do an adjustment on the zero set point by inserting a gain figure, which can be positive or negative. The only reason I might use this feature is replacing a defective inverter, but I wanted the new inverter to start counting kwH where the oold one left off.

As for Powerline modems, I like using the Sunnyboy ones, as I know they will work at the frequency needed. There are regulated frequencies for Powerlines, so that for example, baby monitor Powerlines use a slightly different spectrum, so other devices don't interfere. In fact, while we can't legally use Powerlines in the UK on government funded housing projects, they would not really bother the baby monitors, but regs are regs.
What you can use instead of buying a SB controller, though, is an SMA SWA-comm device, which allows you to use your laptop to communicate using Sunny Data.
