to comm port 4 the next day..... Works fine for the day I start the program.... then he next day it does not recoonect to comm 4. If I exit out and start the program again it says
"Error opening comm port"

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I have to reboot my PC to make it connect. I want it to connect and send logs to my pc with out having to monitor it.

Thanks for any help. Rick

If SG-View can't open a port, that's a hardware issue or another program is already using the port ... your not by chance starting up a second image of SG-View when one is already running?

If not, I'd suggest getting a cheap USB->Serial converter, they can be had for 10 bucks ... in any event its nothing about SG-View, its the PC or another program using the port

No I only have 1 window open..... it seems when my computer gos to "sleep" it seems to lock the comm port and SGT will not rconnect when I resume my session. I do have a USB -> cat 5 at my computer end then cat 5 -> serial at the inverter end. Works great untill my computer sleeps. The reason I go to cat 5 is the length I have to go.... I tried just USB -> serial but did not work.... to long a distance.

Once I reboot my computer it reattachs fine. However I dont want to reboot every day. I look at the comm port and it says "Its working fine"

The "sleep" is not playing well with the USB serial device ... Its nothing to do with SG-View. Disable the PC sleep function should resolve your issue

Another place to look... Go to the Settings / Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device_Manager / Click on "+" next to USB / Right Click on USB Root HUB / Power Management / unclick "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" box

Repeat for the rest of the USB Root HUB devices (I have three on my old XP Windows laptop).

Turning off PC Sleep Function may help too (I also turn off Screen Savers with "finicky" devices).

for vista you can add after you have right clicked on usb root hub the extra step of clicking on properties and from there going to the power management tab to uncheck the box with "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
