I have a pair of STRX 2500's and one appears to have failed. I need a little help as the failed unit has demonstrated a strange condition. The AC breaker had tripped but did not take out the 25 amp fuse at the disconect switch. I reset the breaker and the fuse blew as well as the breaker. I reset the breaker and pulled the disconnect, replaced the fuse, reconnected the AC and the breaker and fuse two blew. I believed the Xantrex STXR was shorted between the breaker and its electronics. I disconnected the AC lines and measured between the AC mains with my Ohm meter. It was an open circuit! LCD works, so some of the Xantrex STXR electronics are working. Question? What am I missing and is there any chance for a repair on the Xantrex STXR.

Thanks

You have an internal failure to the inverter, likely the DC-AC converter.

There is no means to repairs these inverters but Xantrex has a loyalty program where they will give an STXR owner a step discount for a new GT-2.5. Call Xantrex support and ask about this option

Any chance you would have that phone number, it doesn't leap out at me when I go to the Xantrex web pages for grid tie inverter support.

Thanks,

I received no response after two days from an e-mail inquiry; so I called Schnider/Xantrex at 866-519-1470 and talked to a tech-rep. The price today is $1199 + s + t for the GT2.8. The TR first started out with a 40% reduction from the retail price ($1500), then when I whined that others had recently gotten the replacement for $999 the TR had to go to the service manager and check....felt like a car sales setup. Would have gone with the GT3.8 at $1875 but don't have a way to get two voltage matched strings to a single inverter.

My experience with Xantrex has not been a good one. This is the third time I have had to replace inverters since 2002. It appears Xantrex inverters have a very short lifetime, 7 years max. I expect my other STXR 2500 to die soon. The customer loyalty program lacks sincerity, I’ll bet the wholesale price is 40% off retail! Their records showed none in stock, hope that is wrong, I have lost 1/3 of my production with this failure.

If I had it do over I would look at other GT inverters vendors.
