Anybody else catch this?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/nanosolar_pa ... ftnC4DW7oF

They say they are ALREADY producing printable panels for less than $1 per watt and produce as much electricity as Silicon Cells. Did I read that right? These also carry a 25 year warranty. Anybody see any problems with this technology? I don't think its the same as what they were going to be producing from... the university of colorado was it?

One of the question I had was the real retail costs of the panels... The article says they can produce panels at $1.00 a watt and make money and build Grid Tied systems for $2.00 per watt...

If panels right now are $5.00, wholesale costs are probably closer to $2.50 per watt (including shipping and profit). That could indicate that their costs are reduced by 1/2--not bad--but not necessarily an 80% reduction in costs to the typical retail customer...

It would also be interesting to see the packaging (glass?, back seal, termination connections, structural support, etc.)... To save costs and have good life, there are probably also substantial savings in the rest of the manufacturing/packaging process.

This offers the best info on this I have found so far. Its the companies website. They state this - "the world’s lowest-cost solar panel – which we believe will make us the first solar manufacturer capable of profitably selling solar panels at as little as $.99/Watt"

Well, one can get Silcon PV today for about 2.75 watt ( seconds ) ... I've heard the hype about 1.00 watt since I've been in solar, alot of money being poured into anything with the label solar ... it will be a few years best case till we know which is hpye and which is real

For now, what one can buy, Silicon Cell PV is the only choice. Also the Si guys are working at making thinner cells, this should keep them competitive with these marketing based thin films

Where on earth are you finding seconds for $2.75? The best I was able to do after 2 1/2 months of looking was $2.99/Watt for the second hand Sunpower Panels I got. Normally they are about $5 to $5.50 for Sunpower brand though. If they are Evergreen Seconds Im even more interested. What are the lead times?
