I am a newbie but have read tons about it so I decided to jump in.

I have a new system of a xw6048 and 24 of the roller s-450 batteries and a 20kw 100 amp generator.

The set up is approximately 3 weeks old and everyhting was working fine and then all of a sudden it wont charge past two light and then just goes to bypass on the generator.

I have the xw controller and auto generator start module. Why would it say it's charging but won't charge more than 30%

I haven't changed any of the setting from when it was working fine. Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Do you have the SCP control panel? it would show error codes to help understand whats going on

Also, you maybe overloading the inverter or generator? when charging what is the amps displayed?

When it goes to bypass, is it still charging, IE showing amps on the display?, if your charging at max amps you can't then load the output as well, 6kW is combined of charging/inverting

As for why now issues, well its probably just starting to have to charge the batterys, I didn't lookup the specs, but sound like a huge battery pak, whats the specs?

Yes I have the SPC controller and I checked the log and there was nothing there

When it does come on with the charging light on it will fluxuate between 89 to 100 amps

No. the light on the kw comes on and the read out has all 0's

It is a 1050 ah battery pak and sorry I spelt it wrong it's Rolls brand, and when we first installed them it went from fully loaded to 1 light and the controller started the generator and in a couple hours fully charged again.

We are running the whole house on this as a off grid system and I will be needing advice on the solar panel which I will post in the right section tomorrow.

Again thank you for helping and if there is something else I should check let me know and I will get it posted asap[/quote]

I'd double check the setup using the SCP to check the battery voltages and charging modes ...

I have never use the generator input or setting it up ... My XW-6048 is grid based.

I seems like its running more like my setup, that being seeing the AC input and going into bypass as mine unit does normally.

So, check the charging ( I use 2 stage with no float ), make sure your battery aH is setup correctly and battery type. Verify that the SCP reported voltage is the real battery voltage with a DVM

OK, so whats the problem, its charging 100 amps which is the maximum,

You have a 1kw load, which is what is causing the 90-100 amp variation

what happens next?, does the voltage ever make it to the Bulk/Absorb transistion ( 57.6 V without a BTS )

It will take about 5-8 hours @ 100 amps to take a battery @ 30% SOC to 80% SOC as an estimate for a 1000ah pack. Batterys are about 80% efficient, so to go from near delpleted to near full charge would take over 12+ hours at 100 amps

I notice the absorb is only 3 hours, that maybe much to short to completely charge the batteries of that size ( aH ), you should check the manufactures suggested charging rates and time.

Please explain in detail what is you issue as I'm not clear at this point beyond having 3 lights instead of 5 shoowing what this issue is.

The lights arer nothing more than a voltage based state of charge ( compenstated when you have a BTS ).

Under load, the lights may indicated a state of charge lower than actual and if you don't have a BTS ( you really need one for your system ) the voltage is effected by battery tempature so that will skew the charge status

Also the Generator must be 240V, I assume it is based on the amps setting and the Volts setting is for each L1/L2 of the AC2 input

Also

http://www.xantrex.com/web/id/1871/docserve.aspx

is the users manual, page 34 ( 2-11 ) & 35 ( 2-12 ) explain how to use the SCP to see the Status of the unit, most helpful for you would be to monitor ( figure 2-6 ) the XW6048 home screen. It showes amps and states to indicated exactly wht the XW is doing

You can download all the XW manuals from the Xantrex/xw website

For a beginner, you have a huge system ... when you figure out what's happening, please post a follow-up for others to see what was happening
